Canva is a design platform offering more than 50,000 templates across 60+ categories, including book covers, flyers, and comics. Users can customize templates online or print for manual completion. The platform supports team collaboration with groups of up to 10 people working collectively on projects.
Getting Started
- Create a free account and complete the initial walkthrough
- Access your design gallery homepage
- Explore templates or create custom layouts from scratch
- Edit template layers on the left sidebar to customize
- Share online, download in multiple formats (.png, .jpg), or order prints
Canva also offers a tutorial for new users and allows creating personal templates for unique needs.
Example
Available templates include timelines, history book covers, and historical book review worksheets when searching “social studies.” Students can create accounts and collaborate in groups up to 10 people, “remixing” shared designs and suggesting modifications. Teachers use Canva for homework badges, Venn diagrams, and creative projects. A suggested approach: assign students unexpected templates for historical purposes—like sending postcards from the Oregon Trail or creating business cards as historical figures.
